remembering a tidal wave

This is a collaborative project with my mother,

Nelida Felicilda Collantes.

.

She immigrated to the United States from the Philippines and we started to recreate some of her memories. Throughout this process of learning and listening, I’ve begun to feel more connected to her, to the Philippines, and my ancestors. As we build this work, I practice just being present with my mother and to explore our collective story, as she shares what she remembers about the land and place that she came from, and also explore ways that migration and colonization has affected our lives. This work is part of my practice of decolonizing.
